After a night of amazing fights and over a week to review and watch these fights again I am still in shock of the quality of the bouts we saw. If this was any indication of how this league is going to evolve then hold on tight STL, the MMA ride is about to get violent!

There were so many great bouts with absolutely unpredictable outcomes on this card, even Dana White would have been scratching his head and standing in awe. From heavy handed knockout to fierce submission tap outs to close and controversial decisions, this card was PACKED with enough to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats the whole night!

To write about every fight this article would be a novel so I’ll do my best to make this short and concise and stick to the highlights, though I could talk about this card for all night if you let me. So here we go MMA fans:

Terry Gazaway vs. John Glendening
K-1 Fight (155 lbs)
At the beginning of the fight John came out with a hard quick kick to the body that pushed Terry backwards and followed it up with a fury of dual arm full swings to the head of Gazaway, this seemed to infuriate him as he threw back a monster kick to Glendenings body knocking him down. Gazaway, clearly still frustrated, kicks John on while he’s on the ground and the ref quickly got between them and gave Terry a warning. This surprised me as Terry normally seems quite level headed and isnt one to break the rules, but this cheap shot was a glimpse of things to come as it showed that Terry clearly thought he was outmatched, whether that was true or not.
As they continued the round Glendening quickly went back to work landing hard rights and mixing in his lightening quick left jab putting Gazaway in a frustrated defensive mode. At which time Gazaway threw a defensive kick that caught John in the groin, Gazaway was issued a second warning telling him to watch for the groin and the bout continued as Glendening was able to regain his composure. Once again we seee John take control of the match landing a SOLID kick to the chest and following it up with a series of leg kicks and hard jabs to Terry’s hurting face and head. As Gazaway is again caught off balance he lands another incidental shot in Glendening’s groin and Terry is issued a point deduction. The rest of the fight seemed much the same as John was able to end it in the second after opening up heavy flow of blood on Terry’s face, Gazaway verbally submitted as he unable to continue.
Watching and writing this fight was difficult as I’ve become a fan of Terry’s, losing his cool in the octagon is not something that is in his character and something I’m certain we wont see from him again. To say that Terry could have won this bout might be a mistatement but there is no doubt in my mind that Terry has everything it takes to be succesful in the MMA world. One thing i did learn from this bout was John Glendening’s name. He put the local MMA arena on notice with this commanding victory and much talk was heard the rest of the night about seeing him square off against n experienced fighter in an MMA rules format.
Bill Dwyer vs. Kenny McWay
Main Card Fight (205 lbs)
This exciting bout began with a crowd that seemed to be heavily in Kenny’s favor cheering loud enough to shake Busch Stadium, he stepped into the ring with confidence and looked to be ready to make his MMA debut a succesful one. As the fight got underway both fighters landed jabs and a big knee as they spent time clinching. After they separated they took turns trading jabs, and then something happened that nobody saw coming, Dwyer caught McWay with a thundering right hand that dropped him to the mat in a daze, Dwyer proceeded to rush in to finish him off with a massive right that renders McWay in a comatose like state. The Ref quickly rushed in and waved off the fight declaring a huge KO victory for the ambitious Dwyer. I don’t know what was more entertaining, seeing this out of nowhere KO or hearing the many “Oh my God, he killed Kenny” Jeers after the bout.
Regardless, one thing is certain Dwyer has a future in front him, and Kenny, while he may still prove to be a decent fighter, gave us a spectactular highlight of himself getting throttled!
Daniel Baynton vs. Ronny Harper
Co-Main Event (145 lbs)
Coming into this fight, I really felt bad for Ronny Harper. If anyone has seen Baynton fight they know this kid has heart and is one of the more skilled and technical fighters at the local amateur level. Give this kid an inch and He’ll take a mile, Give this kid a brief window with your arm hanging and he’ll dang near snap it. There’s a reason he’s seen around many different venues and has had a shot or two at a title. All that said, hes not perferct and he certainly has an achilles’ heel, or should we say neck. Many times “Flash” has been caught in the RNC and judging from the way Harper dove for it without hesitation I’d have to say it was no secret to him either.
To start the bout Baynton walks in like he’s looking to stand with Harper and Harper lashes out with a hard right and lands a quick takedown. Harper quickly looks to work his ground and pound game as Dan “the flash” Baynton sets up for his signature arm bar. From the sideline, the many around me who had seen Dan fight before started to ooo and ahhh as we all expected Dan to sink in and gain himself a quick submission but Harper quickly broke free and went back to his ground and pound approach. Not to be ignored Dan went right back at trying to land his arm bar, For a moment it appeared Dan had him as he sunk it in deeper than it would take for most arms to break, but with Hulk like strength Ronny picked Daniel up as high he could and slammed him on his back twice, as they wrestled on the ground, Harper saw the RNC and lunged at it like a viper sinking it in deep, Baynton was forced to tap and the underdog arose victorious.
In my opinion this was the performance of the night, if i look forward to seeing anything on the next Nemesis card its to see this Harper kid step into the octagon again. Baynton im sure will rebound from this and earn himself a quick victory, but the story of this fight was one of surprise and the sweet/bitter taste of victory/defeat.

All in all this was an amazing night of fights all around with many more bouts and exciting happenings but to many to list, if you live in the STL area and are looking for a local MMA venue to check out, do yourself a favor and catch the next scheduled Nemesis card and them out at http://nemesisfightingalliance.com/ and on Facebook!
